Hey, friends! Happy New Year! Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
This year we decided to go back to one of our favorite places – Turks and Caicos. If you had a chance to read my previous vacation reviews, then you must know, that we really don’t care about the fancy things like golden toilet bowls and marble floors under our feet when we are on vacation. All we care about is a great island, clean place to stay, beautiful beaches, friendly people and quality time together.
Turks and Caicos can be expensive, however it does not need to be if all you are looking for is an island beauty, the real beauty and a great family time.
This time I made a lot of videos and pictures.
The hotel we like to go is Ports of Call Resort ( no, they are not paying me for that 🙂 ). It is a small hotel located on the Shops of Ports of Call plaza. Very friendly and cozy – it always makes me feel like I am home.
The Ports of Call Resort is located within the beautiful Grace Bay area on Providenciales and shares the same beach as many other luxury hotels around it. Its a short 15-minute drive from the Providenciales airport (PLS). Once in, you will meet a welcoming reception. On arrival we always get a complimentary cocktail.
For your enjoyment, the tropical outdoor facilities include a poolside bar and lounge, table tennis, billiard table, pool, hot tub, comfortable chaise lounges, patio seating, shade umbrellas, towels, and a dedicated children’s play area.
One of the things I like about this place – is that it is so peaceful and quiet in here. No busy crowds of people….just sit, listen to music, smell the flowers and breath 🙂
Ports of Call Resort has a designated beach access to the awe-inspiring Grace Bay Beach complete with lounges, umbrellas, stand up paddleboards and kayaks, and is only 300 meters from the property. A shuttle runs each hour and beach towels are provided.
Grace Bay is a world famous 12-mile long beach. It is really breathtaking. And walking along the beach on a sunset …..feels like you are in heaven.
Here is a little video during the sunset walk. Even though it sounds very windy – the water is the warmest in the evening, well, at least in December:
The rooms are nice, simple and cozy. They have flat TV in them, 2 double beds or 1 king bed, little sofa, little fridge , coffee machine and safe lock box.
Here is a view from our window. It is a regular pool view room without the balcony.
And here is a little video preview of the room. I am sorry for not recording this video at the very beginning when we just arrived… We were all so tired and excited about the vacation that we totally forgot to do it 🙂
The pool consists of 2 parts ….adult part and a round shallow pool inside for kids ( which I liked, since we came with 2 small kids…piece of mind).
By the way you can take diving lessons right there on the spot. As you can see from the background, there was a diving lesson going on 🙂
As I mentioned earlier, Ports of Call belongs to Ports of Call plaza and is surrounded by other plazas all around. You will never stay hungry or without the souvenirs in there. The plaza offers a variety of restaurants, bars, gift and clothing shops, as well as a spa, hair salon, ice cream parlor, dive shop, conference space, fishing charter, and auto/scooter rentals, further enhancing the Resort’s array of services and amenities.
Take a look at the video I made for you so you will have some kind of understanding what is where 🙂
First of all let me share our favorite places with you.
Just because it is so cozy ( and I looooove cozy as you could of guessed by now…probably) and because of their pizzas and this dessert thingy…it turned out to be one of our favorite places to eat….they were soooo delicious!
By the way, very good drinks….and here is my favorite mojito…. mmm
On our last day I decided to order their ( and island’s) famous conch salad. It was delicious.
Kids decided to stick to their favorite food – pizza. Oh well…
Hubby felt like soup….the only soup they could offer was gazpacho. And you know what? It was awesome! I gotta try to make it myself one day!
All of us 🙂
This is this delicious dessert thingy…. I forgot what its called! I remember that it had banana, caramel, something crunchy and a whipping cream 🙂 Mmmmmm I can eat it all day…every day.
Jimmy’s Dive Bar:
Their conch chowder. In Turks and Caicos everything is about conch 🙂
Every time we came in I was just sitting and having fun reading their menu 🙂
You can sit inside or outside. Watch sports or listen to ( sometimes) live music.
Very nice and tasty ice cream place! There are lots of ice cream shops near the hotel. This one is our favorite. First of all its delicious! Second of all – they offer smaller ” kids size” portions ( which are very big in my opinion….we always got kids size for all of us….we were full 🙂 which makes them also cheaper. I recordered this video so you can see where you need to go. The place is called ” The patty place” and located on the ” la petite place” plaza:
This sports Bar. I don’t remember its name, but here is the picture of the entrance. You won’t miss it. Its on the main street.
Audios mother it will be…
Audios Mother it was 🙂
Another conch chowder……told ya…
Green apple drink was also very good and refreshing.
And of course coffee…. for adults only 😉
And the beach! Have I told you about the beach? I bet I did 🙂 Yeah.
And what do we usually do on the beach? Lots of things. You can read that in my previous post about Beach activities for kids .
Water in here is AMAZING! This photo is from the beach, not from the pool 🙂
Of course, if there is any storm somewhere nearby …you will get seaweed and a foggy water, but otherwise – its magical.
SUP renting was included, so we gave it a try…funny…but it was hard to stand on it. We need more practice for sure!!! 🙂
As I mentioned before, its our second time here…..both times we visited during the New Year. So both times we made our own Snowman….a Sandman version 🙂 Kids loved it, they had sooo much fun…well…us as well to be quiet honest 🙂
This is our Sandman from 2016-2017 🙂
And this little fella is from 2014-2015 🙂
In December 2014….we were lucky and got into the last day of some kind of festival in there. It was fun. Lots of people, road was closed so people could walk, live music, ice cream, toys, bubbles all around, dancing….kids had a blast for sure. In 2016 we arrived few days later and didn’t have a chance to experience it all again.
The New Year Eve itself from Ports of Call hotel we experienced on the beach. Last time the weather was just awesome for that…..
The second time….couple hours before NEW YEAR Mr. Rain visited us. Everything was soaked. Hotel personnel had to collect all the tablecloths….dry them…and put all the tables inside under the roof. So first time we celebrated it outside…. and later we went to the beach to drink champagne and enjoy the fireworks. Second time we were mostly under the roof ( still having fun and dancing!) but didn’t have a chance to go to the beach with everyone else, because kids weren’t in their best mood 🙂
These are some photos from our 2015 New Year celebration!
And these are from 2017 🙂
First of all…here is my promised video. We still had fun!!! 🙂 :
Take a look at that rain….
But nothing could stop all of us from having fun!
Ok. The next day we decided to check out another beach, since the storm somewhere in the ocean kept the Grace Bay water a little on a wavy side.
By the way…Turks and Caicos is a British island, so if you aren’t used to driving on a left side – keep it in mind. We didn’t feel comfortable trying it out while having kids with us, so we just took a taxi.
Found off the south west coast of Providenciales , about 600 meter long lies the scenic Taylor Bay Beach. Sheltered by the small Ocean Point peninsula from the regular southeast trade winds, the water here is very shallow, calm and clear and is an excellent choice when visiting with small children.
It is THAT clear! But keep in mind….the clearer is the water – the bigger is the chance to get burned. I made a mistake and forgot to put sun screen on myself….( did it for kids though). The result – I got burned! Pretty badly. Spent the last 2 days healing…and could swim only during the sunset and in a shirt.
It was a great time. Both times. Turks and Caicos is a beautiful island. We will definitely come back.
Hope you enjoyed it. Talk to you soon 🙂
