If you have read my previous post about the desk makeover that I did for my older daughter, then you must know, that I am planning to “build” her whole bedroom set… or…make it over.
So this time I finished another cute little piece for her room – the side tale.
I had exact shape of the side table that I wanted to do in mind. And after some search – I found it!
Here how it looked like. Its real wood. I got is for $10 on kijiji.
It did require lots of sanding, due to all the dents, scratches and stains. So I sanded it and then filled the dents and scratches with a wood filler.
Of course I had to match the knob with the existing knobs I have on the table, so I removed the old hardware and filled the old holes with wood filler as well.
After everything was dry I sanded the side table all over again to smooth out the wood filler.
Cleaned it and primed it ( oh Hi there…you can see my next project on the background 😉 ).
Oh by the way. I got myself a paint sprayer. I really like it. It is HomeRight Finish Max paint Sprayer ( affiliate link included).
Then I sanded the dry coat of primer again and primed it again. After it was dry I painted it in the matching color that the desk is – Behr Sea Salt in Satin finish. Its not too white and not too yellow. Just right.
After 2 coats of paint, and after it was dry of course… I covered it with 2 coats of Varathane Diamond Wood Finish clear coat.
Just when I thought that everything was ready…something went wrong. My top dried and had these cracks all over it….that looked like mud cracks.
I was soo mad 🙁 But I realized that it was my fault. I didn’t follow the rule and applied the second coat within minutes….because I thought it didn’t matter….since it was dry….. Well…we learn by our mistakes.
So I had to sand the top again ( not TOO deep). Then I painted it 1 coat. Let it dry. Then applied 2 coats of clear coat ( and this time I did wait).
The drawer had to match the desk idea – I painted it the same color and the desk drawers. The name of that color is: Light Touch by Benjamin Moore. But I got it in Behr. I just told them the name and they mixed it up for me.
The side table’s legs were very slippery, so I bought these anti-skid rubber leg tips from Home Depot .
And here how it turned out! I’m very happy with the way it looks. I have 2 more pieces of furniture to make over and her room will be done. For now 🙂
The top was nicely redone and has no more cracks.
I like how these rubber leg tips match this side table. Who can tell that they didn’t belong in there? 😉
And this is how it looks all together as a set. For now 🙂 Hope you enjoyed it!
