Every time my kids comes from Kindergarten and tell me that WE have to make a project – I have an eye twitch. Because that means that I have to sit down andcome up with some ideas LOL
Well, one of the latest projects they had at school is to make something out of recycle products. After some thinking we decided to make something from the toilet paper rolls.
There are many things you can make from them, well, we decided to make some pretty butterflies. These cute, crafty and earth friendly toilet paper roll butterflies are so colorful, and easy to make. You could make just one, or a big flock of them. They are sure to brighten any spot you put them.
You will need:
Foam sheets ( we got the glitter foam sheets) , a toilet paper roll, stem, little poms, googly eyes, some nice little decorations that you can glue on ( it can even be some small pretty buttons) , kids paint, glue and adhesives.
To create the base of the butterfly, I painted the roll with my kids color choice. By the way they had their own rolls and had some fun painting as well. Once dry, add your googly eyes ( I used the glue).
Next, take a stem, bend it in the middle. Then bend the halves in the middle again and bring the ends to the first middle ( to simplify it you can just cut the stem in half and then cut that half in half again and use just 1 stem). I did a double stem. After you are done cu cutting/bending, take 2 poms and adhere them to the top of the stems. I used the hot glue from the gun. When you are done, glue the stems to the inside of the tube, like shown.
Now we can work on the wings.
Here is a pattern to use to cut out your wing base.
Trace the wing pattern onto the foam, and cut out.
Now add in colorful decorations and adhere it to the wings. I used the glue.
To finish you beautiful butterfly, place a glue/adhesive along the middle of the wings, and adhere to the back of the finished tube. Just make sure you don’t glue the wings too low,so your butterfly can stay without felling down.
Hope you enjoyed my simple DIY recycle butterfly from the toilet paper roll 🙂
